Acne Studios was founded by Johnny Johansson in 1996 Stockholm, Sweden as a multidisciplinary luxury fashion house. Garnering international recognition originally due to its denim wear, Acne has since grown to produce exceptionally well-tailored men’s and women’s RTW, footwear, accessories and publishes a biannual art/design/fashion/architecture/culture/academic magazine called Acne Paper. Creative souls from all fields of work come together to contribute to Acne Paper (past issues have included Azzedine Alaïa, Noam Chomsky, David Lynch, Carine Roitfeld, Tilda Swinton and Mario Testino). But when it comes to collaborations, Acne Studios is always extra-ordinary (e.g., designing bicycles with Bianchi, furniture with Carl Malmsten, a capsule collection with Lanvin, a cross-gender collection with magazine Candy, limited edition prints with Weimaraner photographer William Wegman…). The name 'ACNE' stands for "Ambition to Create Novel Expressions" and this is exactly the vibrant energy that the label succeeds in manifesting.
