In 1994 Californian designer Rick Owens began his namesake label, a sophisticated tribute to grunge and glamour …“glunge.” Leather jackets and thick-tongued high-top shoes, sarouel pants, luxe fabrics, and destroyed elongated knit tunics come together in Owens’ asymmetric, syncopated glam rock symphony. In 2002 Owens was awarded the CFDA’s New Talent Award, and in 2003 he relocated to Paris, where he lives with his wife and muse Michèle Lamy. He is amongst the handful of designers who collaborate with adidas, bringing his touch of urban elegance into the realm of sports streetwear. Owens’ avant-garde has contributed cult classics to mens and womenswear worldwide, with celebrity fans such as Brad Pitt, Helena Bonham Carter and Kate Moss.
